Another Pinterest Idea - Fail to Fix

Hello!

Yesterday I saw a very simple breakfast idea on Pinterest and decided to give it a try this morning.  It was a chocolate banana smoothie type of thing.  The picture of the smoothie looked pretty good.

Mmm, right?

Well, the very simple directions that were on the picture (I guess I should have followed the pin back to the original site, but oh well, I already fixed this...I'll get to that in a minute) said this:

1 frozen banana
2 Tbsp cocoa powder
Blend until smooth
110 Calories! Woo!

So I tried it and EWWW.  It did NOT look like that.

Too much cocoa powder, and I just can't handle frozen bananas. Literally, my hands cannot seem to work with frozen bananas.  It just turns into a clumsy mess.

So I thought, "Hmm, I have a bag of mixed frozen fruit in my freezer.  Maybe I can fix this."

I grabbed the bag of frozen fruit (mine is peaches, strawberries, mangoes and pineapple -plain with no sugar added).  70 cals per cup.  I threw a cup and a half of that into the blender (now messy banana crap free), added ONE tablespoon of cocoa powder, and since I knew from the aforementioned mess that this would need at least some liquid, I grabbed some of Logan's Vanilla Almond Milk (he is sensitive to casein - the protein in cow's milk, so he drinks almond milk.  And for those of you wondering why we don't give him Soy Milk, soy lowers testosterone levels - not good for boys).

So, new recipe:

1 and a 1/2 cup of frozen mixed fruit
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 Cup milk (this vanilla almond milk is 90 cals per cup)

Blend until smooth.

YUMMMMMM.  It was awesome.  And at a grand total of 200 Cals, it's now going to be a favorite go to breakfast of mine I'm sure.  It tastes like light chocolate with a lot of the fruit flavors mixed in (I mean, AWWWWESOOOOOME), has all the benefits of real fruit, and yeah...it's just good.  And depending on the milk you use, other added goodness might be yours.  Logan's almond milk has a lot of added nutrients so I guess that's a plus right there.   I'm so glad I tried it.  And maybe you've already heard of something like this, but I hadn't so I'm pretty excited about it, haha.

My kids even loved it.  Logan has already decided that it is chocolate ice cream.

Yes, sweetie, it's chocolate ice cream.  Yes it is.  For breakfast.

And no sugar.  Oh yes.

Anyhow, I didn't get a picture.  We three ate it all up before I could do that.  But go try it!
